"I guess, I should have known it wasn't going to be like that forever… But I will cherish what little time we had together…"

Twilight gazed around Ponyville with a discarded expression, knowing she would probably not be coming back here. Applejack had her farm up and running, and was slowly growing in size. Fluttershy ran a vet and pet business, while Rainbow Dash did her regular job along with deliveries on occasion for Fluttershy. Rarity was now the most sought after fashion designer, and Pinkie Pie had too much on her plate as it was. She had gone to try and help out, to spend as much time with them as she could, but each time she had only messed things up and been told 'we'll come hang out later'. Eventually they had turned to her a bit crossly and said "Look Twilight, we love you and all but we really need you to please stop bugging us." Well in Dash's case anyway, but the others had said something similar.

She walked into her tree house and packed money, food, and two books. One Celestia had given her, and one her friends had. "Spike…" She said sadly, the small dragon was spending more and more time helping Rarity, and she felt ashamed to be leaving without him. She had asked him to send a letter asking for Celestia to send a chariot, and had waited for the reply before sending him away. She took one last, sad look around her home. Then she walked over to her writing desk and left a single, word on the white page. 'Goodbye…'

"Hello? Twilight?" Spike inquired as he walked into the silent, empty home. "Oh that's right, she went to see Celestia. Heh, I've got the whole house to myself…" Spike gazed around the silent, dark and creaking tree house. "Actually, I might go and stay at Rarity's. This place will be fine until tomorrow." He closed the door without even setting foot inside, unknowingly missing the note.

Twilight bowed before princess Celestia, and gazed upward warmingly. "Rise, Twilight. Now tell me what is the purpose of this visit." Twilight closed her eyes for a few moment and took a few breaths before continuing. "Princess, may I make an unfair request of you?" Celestia bowed her head in a nod. "Of course my dear Twilight, what is it you wish to ask of me?" Twilight lowered her head so as to not have to gaze at the Princess. "Princess…I wish to travel and see the rest of equestria. I was wondering if you would forgo my assignment in ponyvile to allow me this chance." Celestia frowned for a moment, then smiled "I don't see why not. Are your friends coming?" Twilight raised her head and then shook it, "No. They've got busy work, so I told them to stay here. They can't miss their work just for me." Celestia shook her friend "I think you underestimate your friends…"

Twilight walked forward and looked to her, worried she would refuse "Please Princess, I really don't want to bother them!" Celestia smiled and nodded "As you wish my dear. I shall give you supplies and a cart to carry them. I shall also ask a few of my dear friends in the major cities to give you a place to stay when you arrive there. Will you promise to keep in touch?" Twilight nodded, and smiled as she replied "Thank you very much princess. And please don't tell my friends. I'll be back before they even begin to miss me!" She smiled, and the Princess could not help but feel the hurt ebbing from her tiny apprentice. But she didn't say a word, hoping things would work out for themselves. "Very well, rest tonight and I shall prepare things for you to leave tomorrow." "Yes Princess, thank you so much."

"W-What is this?" Applejack gasped, "Twilight! Twilight where are you?" Rarity dashed up the stairs, her hoped dashed to see not a single purple pony in sight. "See? I told you! She should have been back days ago…Or a month" Spike glanced downward, shamefaced to know that if something had happened, Twilight would have been all alone. The other 5 glanced downward just as guiltily. "She came over to my place so many times….I didn't mean to yell at her…" Applejack said, shamefaced. "I-I was just so busy with the clothes!" "We all were busy…" Fluttershy finished. They gazed at the room, and their eyes fell upon the small message, now browning with age and their hearts sunk further. "We…pushed her away…"

Spike felt his heart sink, knowing he was just as at fault. If only he had thought to check the house that night!! Maybe he would have realised. He began to tear up in the eyes and shook his head. "Wait, Maybe princess Celestia knows!" He pulled out a fresh piece of paper and talked as he wrote, the others crowding around, hope starting to flame in their eyes.
"Dear Princess Celestia. We have just discovered that Twilight is not here. Do you know where she is? Signed, Spike and the others."
He got a reply instantly, just as yellowed with age. Spike began to read
'My dear friends: if you are reading this you have discovered I have gone. You are so busy, and I hope you enjoy your lives. I have decided to travel for a while, to see the world.
Please do not come after me, I do not wish to burden you anymore.
Twilight'

"Twilight" Spike whispered, stroking the letter, a single tear rolled out of his eyes. He felt the crushing weight of knowing he had not even thought about her once since working for Rarity, pushing his time at the tree house down to none. The books were musty and starting to wither. "A month" he sobbed, tears flowing fully now. His heart began to crack in multiple places. "She's been gone for nearly a month, and we didn't even realise. Some friends we are" He hugged the paper to his chest, and froze as it crumbled to pieces before his eyes. He fell to his knees, his pain and suffering coming because of his carelessness and greed.

Rarity came over and nudged him, there were tears in her eyes to "It's my fault. I asked too much of you. " Dash collapsed "No it's mine, I could have easily stopped here while on my way delivering for Fluttershy." Fluttershy looked down "It's mine, for overloading you so much…" "Naw, It's mine. My farm's got staff working 24/7 now, I could have popped in numerous times." Pinkie gazed there, shocked to move "She…She's gone…" The all looked to the crumbled remains of her letter, and their pain became like a blanket over them. "Yeah…..and it's our fault…."

Spike blinked once, "Wait! If Celestia had this letter, then maybe she knows where Twilight it" Pinkie bounced twice "Spike! You're right!" Spike dashed over to the paper, not even bothering to tie it up as he sent a quick message 'Where is she!?'. They waited in frantic, hopeful silence that lasted a full minute. Their agonising need to find her was overwhelming. Their letter came, in white paper that was fresh.
'Dear Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, Dash, Pinkie Pie and Spike
I wish I had good news for you, I dearly do. Twilight travelled to Manehattan and met up with some ponies I know. She spent two days there, and then vanished. She was wearing a cloak which hid her from view, and I haven't heard word from her since. If you are going after her please make sure she is safe…
Celestia.'

The six looked to each other, and then Spike held up a fist. "By my hand, I will find Twilight. I'm her best friend, and there is no way in hell she is going to travel the world without me." He turned and glanced to Rarity and paused. "Rarity…I'm sorry…" Rarity smiled "Come on dear, you expect me to stay behind? She's my friend too and even if I have to go though….mud," Rarity shudderd, "I will find Twilight with you." Spike nodded and glanced to the others. Pinkies and dash both leapt up and said "Count on it." Fluttershy said a quiet "Yes. I'm coming too." Applejack looked down at the ground for a moment "She's done so much for me…But if we do go who will look after our jobs and the farm?"

Spike lept into the air and said "Screw jobs, we're after a friend here! We ignore her and she left. It's our fault and we're going to fix it." Applejack smiled "Now that's the attitude I was hoping for. Still, I wonder what that sugar cube was thinking, running off without even trying to say goodbye to us…" The others looked down, and Applejack realised her mistake, "Ah, naw that came out wrong." Rarity and the others smiled "It's okay, we know what you mean. We don't have time to waste. Lets grab our things and set out for Manehattan." The other nodded, and separated. "Twilight, just where are you?"

In a nondescript place there was a pony in a black cloak who had a horn that was purple. She pulled off her hood and revealed a black mane and a brown body. She pulled out some brown glue-like substance and dipped her horn in it, waiting for it to dry and then replacing it. "I'm sorry Celestia, but I don't want to be found…And I know you too well..."
Note: I didn't draw the preview, it's just a temporoary one.
